An industrial cyclone separator is one of the workhorses of industrial air pollution control and material recovery. In coating and finishing operations, cyclones capture overspray and fine particulate matter, protecting air quality compliance and equipment.
Our client in Birmingham, Alabama, needed a new cyclone separator, sized and fabricated to fit an existing system and perform to spec from day one.
We fabricated the cyclone body from AR400, abrasion-resistant steel with a Brinell hardness rating around 400. In a coater cyclone, the inner walls need to stand up to a continuous beating from high-velocity particulate-laden airflow. AR400 can outlast mild steel by a factor of four or more in abrasive service, dramatically extending the replacement interval and reducing lifecycle cost.
Southern Metal Fabricators custom fabricated the 36-inch diameter, 203-inch overall-height cyclone separator, delivered it to the Birmingham plant, and completed installation. The entire project took just eight weeks.
