Dry product storage bins sit at the center of material flow in many industrial operations. Whether resin pellets, grain, powdered chemicals, or other bulk dry materials, these vessels need to be sized right for the application and structurally sound enough to handle the static loads of a full bin.
For a facility in North Charleston, South Carolina, Southern Metal Fabricators fabricated two different-sized storage bins with the smaller ones 8 feet in diameter by just over 20 feet tall and the larger ones 14 feet in diameter by nearly 24 feet tall. Fabricating both configurations to the same quality standard, in parallel, requires careful production management and disciplined CNC cutting and sawing to hold tolerances across the run.
We finished the bins with bare steel interiors to avoid the risk of coating contamination with the stored dry product. We painted the exteriors to protect against corrosion. We ultimately produced 12 tanks for this project in just 12 weeks from the order date.
